NWSRA DAY CAMP...The Benefits are Endless!

Summer day camp provides summer time fun while helping campers retain skills developed during the school year. Benefits include socialization, increased motor skill and community awareness. Daily camp activities include sports, games, crafts, and swimming. Field trips and special events add extra excitement to the program. Hundreds of day camp staff are hired and assigned to day camp sites according to their interest and background. Staff is trained in the areas of activity planning, behavior management, first aid and safety. The staff to camper ratio varies from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on the camp.

Leisure Education ActivitiesLeisure Education

A cooperative effort between special education and NWSRA program staff, leisure education is designed to promote life long leisure awareness for students. Professionally trained and certified NWSRA staff work closely with the Special education staff to reinforce classroom goals and to assist in individual education goals through the program. Special educators and special recreators alike, share a commitment to assist in the development of the individual capabilities of children and teens. Leisure Education purposes are to instruct, train and provide opportunities to promote physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. The program can provide exposure to life time recreational pursuits, skill development and valuable opportunities for students and educators to develop rapport and mutual respect outside of the classroom setting.

Favorite outdoor activities include outdoor cooking, sledding, outdoor awareness, and boating. Bowling, miniature golf, and roller skating are some of the more popular indoor activities.

For more information about this program, please contact Kristin Troy at 847/392-2848, ext. 248 or email ktroy@nwsra.org

Member Park District Inclusion Process

NWSRA and its member park districts believe that all individuals should be provided with leisure opportunities that allow for performance at their highest level of ability. Although many people achieve this through participation in an NWSRA program, others may have greater success in a park district activity.
